New Book: Mormon Kabbalah 101

When you first hear the words “Mormon” and “Kabbalah” in the same sentence, you might, as the book’s forward suggests, raise an eyebrow. On the surface, Restorationist faith and Jewish mysticism seem worlds apart. However, the book “Mormon Kabbalah 101” presents this combination not as a contradiction, but as a beautiful spiritual language that bridges ancient wisdom with modern revelation. It offers a path for uncovering hidden treasures in scriptures both old and new.
Should you read it? As the book’s author, I am writing a review of the book’s core teachings, exploring its key themes and the practical tools it offers for spiritual growth. We will also look at who might benefit most from adding this unique volume to their spiritual library.

What is Mormon Kabbalah?

Let’s start at the beginning. Mormon Kabbalah is a spiritual framework for uncovering the hidden treasures within the Bible, the Book of Mormon, the Brass Plates, and modern revelations. It is not merely an academic study of ancient texts but a living practice, informed by contemporary dreams, visions, and revelations, such as those found in The Book of Remembrance. Following the path laid out by Nephi, “I glory in plainness; I glory in truth…” (2 Nephi 15:7 [33:6]), his approach emphasizes simplicity and clarity in seeking a deeper connection with the divine. At its heart, Mormon Kabbalah teaches that acts of kindness and charity are essential for spiritual growth, serving as the practical application of a faith centered on the pure love of Christ.

Key Themes for Your Journey

To give you a sense of the profound journey this book offers, let’s explore some of its most compelling themes. “Mormon Kabbalah 101” is structured to guide the reader through foundational concepts, practical exercises, and crucial wisdom for navigating a personal spiritual path. The fundamental questions of existence are said to be, “who am I?” and “why am I here?” Our purpose, according to Mormon Kabbalah, is tied to the gift of free will and the challenge of finding balance between Ayin (the infinite, divine source) and Yesh (our finite existence). The teachings assert that to bridge this gap and achieve true unity with God through the atonement of Christ (at-one-ment). We need Jesus Christ as the “Word made flesh.” The book will also introduce readers to the PaRDeS method, a brilliant four-level approach to scriptural interpretation that uncovers layers of meaning. P’shat, the plain, surface-level meaning; Remez, the “hints” at deeper themes; D’rash, the interpretive lessons; and Sod, the mystical meaning.

I also include actionable spiritual practices so that one may integrate its teachings into daily life. Mormon Meditation, for example, is distinct from many Eastern traditions. Instead of emptying the mind, the goal is to fill oneself with the Holy Spirit. Practitioners learn to find their spiritual “core” and are taught exercises like creating a “Shield of Faith.” This serves as a practical, spiritual defense against the very dangers of negative energy and manipulation, also known as “spiritual warfare” (though I did not use this term in the book). To build it, one is taught to ground and center their energy, picture a protective egg shape around themselves, and then push the shield out from their center to fill that shape.

Who Should Read Mormon Kabbalah 101?

The book is written for a broad and inclusive audience. It is a valuable resource for Latter Day Saints from any denomination and Christians of all traditions who are open to exploring the mystical dimensions of their faith. This includes anyone with a sincere heart seeking a living, personal relationship with Christ. It is also for any individuals interested in Jewish mysticism and how its concepts can illuminate Restorationist scriptures and theology. Spiritual seekers looking for a deeper understanding of God that transcends dogma may also enjoy this book. Those seeking practical, structured methods for spiritual growth, including meditation, repentance, and scripture study will find these methods a good starting point in their own sacred journeys. And any wrestling with profound questions of identity, and purpose will discover how to live a more meaningful, faith-centered life.

A New Lens on Faith

Readers have stated that Mormon Kabbalah 101 offers a unique and profound framework for personal spiritual development. It successfully combines deep mystical concepts with practical, actionable steps that can be integrated into a modern life of faith. By teaching readers how to find their identity in Christ, cultivate a broken heart, and use tangible tools for growth, the book provides a new lens through which to view scripture and one’s relationship with God. It ends with an empowering and deeply integrated message. By first repairing our own connection with the divine, the light of Christ can flow from us. It is through this personal act of spiritual restoration that we are empowered to help repair the world (tikkun olam), one soul at a time.
