Over the past few weeks the phrase “the broken hearted” has repeatedly been called to my attention. Sometimes it would seem to account for a whispered phrase in the background of everyday life and at other times it would be as a booming echo upon which the events in our world seem to reverberate. Continually though, it is a label applied to the state we continue to exist in under our fallen condition.

The traditions found within the Catholic and Orthodox Churches are ones that stretch back close to two thousand years. During this time the respective Churches became a reflection of the culture in which they found themselves. As such, the priesthood offices found in these Churches are reflective of not only the Church found during the time of the Apostles but are also reflective of the service that was rendered to God in these respective communities over the centuries.

Advent is a time for preparation and anticipation. The word advent is derived from the Latin adventus which translates to meaning coming or arrival. In Greek we will witness the term parousia utilized. This term is often utilized to reference the second coming of Christ.
